Little Caesar and the Consuls - You Really Got A Hold On Me b/w It's So Easy

Toronto band Little Caesar and the Consuls, known for launching the career of Robbie Robertson, recorded this cover of the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles tune in 1965 on the Toronto-based Red Leaf label. The flip side is another cover of the Buddy Holly tune 'It's So Easy' (with an incredible guitar tone!). This single spent 10 weeks on the Canadian CHUM charts climbed to number 19 on November 29, 1965. Here is their official website with a detailed biography.

Wow, you've got a great page here, lots of cool info on obscure 60's bands (right up my alley).

I have a single by these guys, the "(My Girl) Sloopy" b/w "Poison Ivy" 45 also on the Red Leaf label. "Sloopy" was a hit for The McCoys (featuring a teenaged Rick Derringer) but was also covered by the Yardbirds.

I didn't know Robbie R. was in this band - thanks for that tidbit, and keep up the great work!

Thanks for the compliments!
Robbie Robertson was only in the band for a little while. I believe it was before he joined Ronnie Hawkin's famous backing band The Hawks. Who of course later became The Band. The Poison Ivy single is great. Such a shame that Red Leaf records went under so quickly.
